Day 2Yilan County, Waterfalls and Cliffs!

Get some fresh air first thing in the morning and hike Linmei Shipan Trail through lush foliage, along a charming creek and past flowing waterfalls. Then we’re onto epic vistas at Nanfangao, which overlooks a traditional fishing harbor.

After a fresh seafood lunch, do a jungle hike to a 30 meter waterfall, and relax in the mist or take a quick dip to cool down.

Next, take in one of the 7 wonders of Taiwan, Qingshui Cliffs, a 21 kilometer length of coastal cliffs averaging 800 meters above sea level. That night, have a peaceful night’s stay at the foot of Taroko Gorge National Park.

Day 3Taroko Gorge National Park

Towering mountains and deep gorges make for a stunningly beautiful and endlessly surprising day in this top natural attraction. Stroll among the sheer cliffs at Swallow Grotto, visit dizzying suspension bridges, take a nature walk through the “Mysterious Valley” on the Shakadang Trail, and enjoy zen with a view at the Changuang Temple.

Climb the Bell Tower Trail to a two story pagoda high on the cliffside, enjoy an Aboriginal Lunch in the mountains, and learn about the area’s fascinating and sometimes dark history.

Get blown away by the natural beauty of the newly reopened Tunnel of Nine Turns, and visit the tranquil Eternal Spring Shrine. Relax by a turquoise river and sample tasty homemade Aboriginal Treats.

Day 4East Rift Valley

Swim in the crystal blue waters of the Miyawan River, and take a stroll along the tranquil Liyu Lake. Wade through Bai Bao Creek in search of real Taiwan jade!

Head into the mountains and feel the jungle at gorgeous Fenghuang Waterfall. Try “Seafood Stone Soup”, a traditional Amis Tribe delicacy, with a side of wild mountain vegetables. Wander the gardens and forest trails of Fuyuan National Forest, and have a soak in the Butterfly Valley hot spring pools!

Day 5 In and around Hualien City

Start off with a calming visit to the spectacular Gangtian Taoist Temple, before hiking up to see the best view of the city from the top of Zuocang Trail.

After a delicious snack, cool down with the locals in the magical Shuiyuendi River. Make sure you have a large appetite, as the last stop is the Hualien Nightmarket, where the heart of the city presides when the sun goes down.

Challenge yourself to try some of the local delicacies, and feel the vibe from the live indigenous music as you wind your way through this colorful collection of food, drinks, and games.

Day 6 Hualien East Coast to Shitiping

Travel down the coast to first check out an incredible sea view from the largest golden Buddha on Taiwan’s coast at the mountainside Henan Temple.

Try your hand at aboriginal bamboo longbow archery at the Shuilian Tribe Hunters Camp, and drop in on the eclectic aboriginal community at the hidden beach cove of Niushan Huting (Cow Mountain).

Visit the East Coast’s second biggest gorge, hike to a cliff top view point, and then soak up the sand and surf at Jici Beach. Experience the serene coastal fields at the Xinshe Coastal Rice Terraces.

Try traditional smoked flying fish at an Amis Tribe Fisherman’s Restaurant, and then wander amidst bizarre rock formations and aquarium-like tidal pools at the fabled Shihtiping (Stone steps) as you admire the spectacular 360 degree landscape.
